During the Homestead Era, the popular lake steamboat "Klondike" provided the connecting link between Polson and the railroad at Somers. It was also chartered for special occasions. It could carry 425 passengers and over 100 tons of freight. There were three versions of the steamer, all built by Gene Hodge. The first, built in the early 1900s, was spelled "Klondyke."
