Derailment of the Northern Pacific Railroad's North Coast Limited was one of the top stories in Polson's Flathead Courier in June 1962. The passenger train was descending Evaro Hill near Missoula when possible brake failure caused it to approach a curve too fast. The engine and at least five cars, as shown in the photo, left the tracks bordering US Highway 93. There was one fatality - a small child in one of the train cars was suffocated by mud.
