J.A. Johnson and H.S. Hanson started the Security State Bank in Polson in 1910. It was actually the third bank in the young city. Johnson and Hanson operated the bank until 1953 when J. Hilbert (Hib) Hanson purchased J.A. Johnson's stock interest. About one-third of the stock remained in the ownership of Keith Johnson. J.A.'s grandson, and Keith's mother, Ethel M. Johnson. Hib bought the outstanding stockholders' interests in 1977 and then Keith acquired the Lake County Abstract Co.. Hib sold the bank in 1998 to First Interstate Bank, its present owner.
