Born in England. Arrived in Montana in 1880. John Brooke (Jack) Herford married Susie H Whitney in 1886. Rancher near Roundup in late 1880s and early 1890. Early County Attorney (elected 1894) and Sheriff. Served during the Spanish American War. Was involved with apprehension of Bickford, the murderer of Sheriff Webb, in March, 1908. Volunteered during World War I and enlisted with the Canadian Army.
