Born in Kentucky on February 7, 1847, Alonzo Putnam Hart, came to Montana in 1869 after serving in the 7th Iowa Infantry during the Civil War. He marched with Sherman to the sea in the Civil war. Settled at Coulson in 1881 and then Billings. Was a carpenter, Justice of the Peace, Deputy Sheriff and U S Court Bailiff. Father of Arthur J. Hart, Mrs. Maude Salsbury and Mrs. Hazel Clark. Buried at Mountview Cemetery in 1928 - See Last Tributes are Paid Hart, Billings Gazette, April 26, 1928 (and April 25, 1928 article). Daughter Maude E married Clarence T. Salsbury, March 25, 1908, in Red Lodge - she was born in Keosauqua, Iowa, she died in 1965.
