George J. Wiedeman was born at New Bremen, Auglaize County, Ohio, February 22, 1859. In September 1881, Mr. Wiedeman came to Montana and to the Judith Basin where he worked for Jack Waite as a sheep herder. The next year he took a band of sheep on shares and located his flocks near Lewistown. He continued in the sheep business until 1886. He worked for T. C. Power & Brother from 1886 until 1892. He joined with T. C. Power and A. W. Warr in forming the Montana Hardware Company. George married Anna M. Weydert in 1890. He died in 1935. Mr. Wiedeman was instrumental in starting the Hanover Portland Cement Company, which was later purchased by the Ideal Cement Company. He helped build the Winnett Irrigation Company, helped start the Arro Oil and Refining Company and was instrumental in bringing Montana Flour Mills into Lewistown. He also ran the brewery selling “Silver Tip” beer. The brewery was closed in 1937.
