MacLean, Eva Marie, 1896-1975.
Material gathered by MacLean for the Montana Writers Project, on the histories of Dawson, Richland, and Wibaux counties, Mont.; together with short stories; poems; and skits for children.; Eva Marie MacLean was born on 6 Oct. 1896 in Guthrie, Okla. She married Milford Enlow MacLean in 1913 or 1914, and the couple settled on a homestead in northeastern Prairie County, Mont. They proved up on the homestead in 1919. The couple had two sons, Robert and Clifford. For the next few years they moved frequently. In 1930 they were in Oklahoma, where Milford found work in the oil fields. From 1935 to 1939 Eva worked for the Montana Writers Project in Glendive, Mont., compiling histories of Dawson, Richland, and Wibaux counties. Eva and Milford relocated to Newport, Wash., in 1939 where he managed a game preserve. In 1941 they moved to Portland, Or., where she continued to be involved with creative writing projects, including "Grandma's Story Time" for television station KPTV. She also worked as a private remedial reading teacher. Eva M. MacLean died on 20 Apr. 1975 in Portland.
