Dear Wadsworth:-
As you and Grant left thi3 collection of arms matter in my
hands, I told Grant’s office to send to me all replies directed to you
as President of the club. I have had four cr five, and have reckless-
»
ly opened them. They are all excuses or statements that the person addressed by your circular letter is out of the country. I have had only two or three inquiries about the collection of arms, but the President, in response to a petition sent him, has said that ha will deposit with the collection a rifle formerly belonging to Kit Carson.which is now in his —Rossvelt’s—possession.
If there are any possessors of old arms that you can stir up, or feel like appealing to, prey do so. The collection will have to
be started, I think, through the personal influence of those who are interested.
Major W. A. Wadsworth, Geneseo,
Yours sincerely
