James Adams
James Russel Adams was born on
March 17,1923 in Rudyard, Montana.
His parents were Charles M. and Axie
(Earl) Adams, and he was the youngest
of fourteen children. Jim received his
formal education at Joplin, graduating
from high school there in 1940. He
was inducted intotheUS. Army World
War II; he served overseas in England
and France and was wounded in
action. Following his "honorable
discharge" in 1945, he returned to
Montana.
Jim married Varvarra Jean Sauer
on October 9th, 1948 at The Hitching
Post" in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. They
lived in nearby Kellogg, Idaho for
several years where Jim worked for
the Sunshine Mining Company. In
1953 they moved to the Inverness
community where they raised their
four daughters. Jim spent most of his
workingyears in thefarming business.
After his retirement in 1987, they
moved to their home in Lakeside.
Because of failing health two years'
ago, Jim entered the Montana
Veterans Home in Columbia Falls. He
resided there until his death this past
Tuesday evening, August 3rd, 1993.
He was 70 years old...
Jim bved farming and all activities
associated with farming: everything
from summer-fallowing to tinkering with
farm machinery. Over the years he
enjoyed playing cards and visiting with
his Inverness area friends. In his later
years Jim enjoyed doing latchhook
projects, and he shared many of his
finished works with family & friends.
Jim loved to read during his quiet time
at home, and was well-read on a wide
variety of subjects. Jim especially loved
a good joke — his friends & relatives
can attest to this after being on the
receiving end of his jokes a few too
many.times. His quick wit and ready
comebacks were so much a part of
Jim's personality that they were the
expected norm in any conversation
with him. Because of his "happy-go-
lucky" nature, many friends referred to
Jim affectionately as "the jolly giant".
He will surely be missed by all who
