O Fletcher Goddard was born near Troy, Iowa, January 20, 1853. In 1881, he was married at Centerville, Iowa, to Miss Alwilda Stephenson, who died in Billings in 1926. He came to Billings in March, 1883. Member of the Montana State Convention, 1889. See Three Pioneer Lawyers, Billings Gazette, November 16, 1939, p. 14. On July 1, 1938, at the age of 85, he was installed as Chief Justice of the Montana Supreme Court. Judge OF Goddard died in 1943 - See O.F. Goddard, Former Chief Justice, Dies, Billings Gazette, September 26, 1943, p.1. See History of Montana by Raymer, History of Montana by Miller, History of Montana by Leeson, and Montana, and Its Story and Biography by Stout. President of Thompson-Elk Basin Oil & Gas Company, director of the Montana Coal & Iron Company, helped form the Billings Sugar Company in 1905, and an attorney for the CBQ Railroad for 30 years. Buried at Mountview Cemetery. WHC has oral history with him. |
