This is to insure the carrier and the Gazette of prompt payment. Thank you for your help. Harvest is progressing well, the crop is above average and weather has been favorable for harvesting. The dry harvesl weather brings a hazard condition that all farmers are aware of and most have made some preparation for -FIRE-with heavy tall stubble and a good grass growth the problem is even larger than normal. Last week I witnessed the concern and the togetherness that farmers have when an emergency such as fire occurs. Within minutes a fire fighting group of 8 to 10 were on hand to help extinguish the fire. The citizens band radio would have brought more help had the need arose. Fortunately the burned area was stubble surrounded on three sides by summer fallow. Not far away was unharvested grain and hundreds of acres of excellent range. After this incident I visited wi with other farmers and discusse ed their emergency fire preparations-he re are some of their comments: "We keepa a tractor and plow or one way ready to go" "My 300 gallon spray tank is full of water on the spray pickup" "Shovels, fire paddle and wet sacks have been used many times and are ready to go but we would rather see everyone use the extra precautions and not let fire start." Perhaps this last comment was the most important but the concern and readiness is there Thenks to our 'think ahead farm people.
