This is Poplar's 4th consecutive year of going to the State Tournament and its second year to defend its championship title . Plentywood and Poplar won berths at the Tournament at the Eastern A District Tournament held in Wolf Point two weeks ago. These were the smallest schools in the tournament, with Plenty-wood taking first place and Poplar second. Tom Granbois is the only team member who has played all four years in the State Tournament being named on the first All State Team in 1974. Albert (Gooch) Kirn has been in State Tournament play 3 years and was named Most Valuable Player of the Tournament last year 1975. Jay Cummins, Nick Cain, and Mike Kirn have also been in Tournament play .for 3 years. Tournament action staits Thursday afternoon with Cut Bank and Hamilton playing the first game and Poplar and Dillon playing the second game . Evening games are Laurel and Browning playing the first game and Plentywood and Whitefish the second. NOMINEES FOR SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEES A few more names have been added to the list of those running for the School Trustee . Closing date for applicants to get petitions in to the School Clerk, Vern Ostlund is March 17th at 5:00 p.m. For 3 year term: George Budak Caleb Shields Steve Grey Hawk Sr. John O'Brien For 2 year term: Charles Trinder Harold Iverson For 1 year term: Larry Youngman Donald Richard Rev. John Orwig SCHOOL SCHEDULE There will be no school on Thursday and Friday, March 11th and 12th due to the Basketball Tournament. NEW SECRETARY Mrs. Yvonne Shields will replace Mrs. Lois Combs as Secretary for the Superintendent of Poplar School system. She assumed duties on Monday. NOTICE THE COUNCIL MEETING WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY MARCH 15. THE POPLAR FIREMEN ARE OUT AGAIN TO PROMOTE THEIR FIREMANS BALL WHICH WILL BE HELD ON MARCH 20. AT THE POPLAR LEGION HALL. PETE LOEGERING AND EARL BAKER ESCORTING THEM WITH THEIR HORSES AND SLEIGH SCHEDULE CHANGED PCPLAR LANDFILL OPEN Starting March 16 the Poplar Sanitary Landfill will be closed except on Tuesdays and Sturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Two, three cubic yard containers are available outside the gate in which to deposit trash on the days the landfill is not open. It is against the law to set fires at the Landfill. NO ONE BUT AUTHORIZED PERSONS ARE PERMITTED TO SET FIRES AT THE LANDFILL. The City has obtained special permission from County Sanitarian to burn deoYis from demolished buildings in order to save space in the Landfill. This is the only burning that is permitted. want to hear some good fish stories STUDENTS START DAWSON COLLEGE SPRING QUARTER Spring quarter night classes at Dawson College will bejir during the week of March 15 Students will register at the class's first meeting, so it is important that they attend class that first week . Only classes with a sufficient number of enrol lees will be offered. Scheduled to begin at 7 p.m Monday, March 15 are Business Communications, Principles of Accounting (third quarter). Advanced Survey! Beginning and Advanced Welding, Montana Indians, and Introduction to Sociology. All are offered for academic credit and will meet at Dawson College except for the welding course, which will meet at Dawson County High School HUNTER SAFETY COURSE Hunter Safety Classes will start on Monday March 22. These classes are for boys and girls 12 years on up to qualify for hunting licenses. Anyone under 16 must have passed this course before they can purchase a license. Classes will be held in the Art Room at Poplar High School at 7:00 p.m. We've heard some complaints from fishermen not having good luck this year at Fort Peck Dam. But this cannot bt the case with these two fishermen. Pictured at top is Tom McGowan with the Walleye Pike which he caught Friday, March 5. This fish set the record at 11 lb. 5 oz. it was 30.3in. long and measured 17 1/2 " at its girth. Second picture is Jock Nees proudly showing off his 26 lb. Northern Pike which although it didn't set a record, its still one big whopper to catch. Below are the two men pictured with their catch which would satisfy any fisherman. They were all caught with spears at Rock Creek.
