" After a bad slump through the later part of Conference play, they battled their way thru Glandive and Sidney only to loose by a few points to Plentywood the contender for first place in the Sat. night game. Plentywood took the Championship by 4 points and both teams will go to the State Tournament to contend for the Championship of the State. Believe me Poplar will be in there 100% for its their title that the other teams are bidding for. Mostly for all our Out-of State readers we are re-pro' ducing the highlights of the games so that they can see what happened. Many of you readers are Mends and relatives and we know you are interested.. .those who have lived here know that Poplar is at the games J thursday afternoon game glendive vs. poplar After a nip and tuck first half, Poplar widened an already captured lead, and defeated Glendive 64-43 in the second game of the tourney. The Indians poured in 26 points in the that quarter, while the Red Devils only went up for eight Albert Kirn blasted in seven of his total 17 points as he made many key shots to spark the Indians in the fourth. Poplar scored on 56 per cent of field goal attempts, while Glendive came up with points on 38 per cent. The Indians also outrebounded the Red Devils 31-21. The Indians rallied from a 31-31 halftime score and claimed the lead in the third period by outscoring the Eagles 18-10. Behind sharp passing by Albert Kirn, tough rebounding by Tom Granbois. and hot outside shooting by Nick Caine and Jay Cummuns. Poplar easily outplayed Sidney for the win. Tom Granbois rounded up 18 points for the winners, while his brother Manny teammed up with Kirn, Caine. and Cummins for 39 points. Noting that the year 1976 marks the 64th anniversary of the founding of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., Doris Cline, the neighborhood Chairman lauded Girl Scout efforts over the years to "build better relationships among persons of ell ages,, religions, races, and nationalities" and to improve the quality of our environment." She added, however that "much of the credit for the splendid record set by Girl Scouts in our community must go to the men and women volunteers, and to the many civic religious, fraternal, educational and professional organizations that provide Girl Scout with leadership, meeting places, sponsorship for troops and financial aid." The Girl Scouts of Poplar wish to express their sincere thanks to all who support their programs and projects. INDEPENDENT TOURNEY THIS WEEKEND The Fort Peck Reservation Basketball League will hold it's Annual Tournament on March 4-5-6-7, 1976 at the Poplar High School Gymnas ium . League membership for this year was 137 individuals with 12 teams in competition, some members have joined late in the year and will not qualify for tournament action If you haven't had the oppor tunity to see on Independent ream in action this year, this would be the time to see all twelve teams as they go for one of the five team trophy's which will be | i ssented to winning teams at the conclusion of the tournament. Don's Bar with a 19 and 0 loss record coming into the tournament is naturally picked as one of the favorites to win all the basketballs or whatever, but keep in mind that this team has squeaked by three or four of the other teams to post their victories and con be upset in the grand showdown. You've seen the rest, now we invite you to the best in basketball action starting Thursday night at the Poplar High School Gym at 7:00p.m NOTICE THE REGULAR POPLAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM WED.
