The outstanding kick off return of 87 yards by Eric Moe resulted in the Indians fi>st touchdown. Nick Cain intercepted a pass to score and Albert Kim roundec out the scoring for the Indians by passing to Kelly McGowon who scored the third touchdown for the Indians. Coach Rich Dean cited four outstanding defensive performances. These were Albert Kirn, Nick Cain, Mark Fredericks, and Mike Kirn. Half-time entertainment was provided by the Glendive march ing band and majorettes. This week the Indians travel to Miles City IT GIRLS LOSE TO MALTA SPEECH TEAM ORGANIZING NEW GARBAGE ORDINANCE It wosa season opener for both the Indians and the Mustangette Friday night. Quartet Scores: Poplar 4 11 14 27 Malta 14 29 44 52 Top scorer for Poplar was Brendc Kirn with 12. Followed by Susie Fredricks 6, Lisa Van Dover 4, Karen Smoker 4, and Top Rebounder Tammy Lambert with 1 . Malta scorers were: Donna Mendel 14, Janice Anderson 8, Shaune Ereaux 6, Grace Gio-bofsky 8, Sherry Green 10, Susan Meddel 2, Judy Van Hou< Houdt 4. Indians have another home game or Thursday night against Will-iston. Good Luck Girls. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK w� m� and niCk c*. Speech season is almost upon us again. The organizational meeting was held Spet. 4. Cur first meet is scheduled tentatively on October 4 in Baker . This year we're looking for a very successful woson in that no seniors participated last year. This year we hove about 3 seniors, with the remainder of our team comprised of underclassmen . The speech team will be traveling to various invitational meets this year. District Speech meet will be held in Glasgow on January 21 and State in Malta on Feb. 6and 7 ending the season. Another thing you may be looking for is the Poplar Invitational Speech Meet scheduled for Cct 18. Mr. Martin will be contacting prospective judges in the next two weeks. The Poplar Speech Team Invites you to attend any or all meets this year. From our previous two years of competition we have acquired a 3rd place District trophy, with the 2nd place falling to us last year. We hove made as our motto for this season: "First in Forensics in 76" . Your help and support will be appreciated. Cliver Marson Debate SAFETY PROGRAM Roy Linn, Montana Cooperative Extension Safety Specialist, Bozeman, Mt. will present a program "Woman and Her Car" at the Citizens First National Bank at Wolf Point on Wed. Sept. 24, starting at 1 p.m. The first part of the program is indoors and if weather permits we will mo�e to the parking lot and continue the program under the hood of a car. This is a 3 - 31 72 hour program and is available to all people regardless of race, creed, color, sex or national origin. If you drive a car this program con help you. The City Council adopted a -evised Garbage and Refuse Ordinance at their last meeting on Sept. 11, 1975. The new Ordinance requires that any customer requiring the removal of the equivalent of eight 30-gallon cans of garbage twice a week must provide a steel tank that is wind proof and dog proof The City also has the authority to require anyone to provide a tank whose handling of garbage with conventional garbage cans creates a nuisance . The City has already received requests from many businessmen In Poplar who want the tanks. The first order of tanks is scheduled to be delivered this week . The City is charging the bus in esses the wholesale price plus S 15.00 for handling and setting up each tank. The total charge which is expected to be paid upon delivery, is $180.00 for a 1 1 2 cu. yd. tank, $260.00 for a 2 cu. yd. tank, and $340. for a 3 cu . yd. tank . A 1 1 ^2 cu. yd. tank holds the equivalent of 10.1 30-gal cans , a 2 cu. yd. tank holds the equivalent of 13.5 3C-gal cans and a 3 cu. yd. tank holds the equiva lent of 20.2 30-gal cans. New garbage rates will go into effect on Nov. 1, base on volume of garbage removed and number of pickups per week. The rate for dwellings will re main at $3.00 per month, but the number of cans permitted will be three per dwelling . Dwellings having more than three cans will be charged ai the minimum commercial rate of $6.00 per month.Commercial concerns will be charged a $1.00 base charge plus $1 .00 per collection per week, plus $3.00 per 100 30-gal cans per month. Using this system a business with a 1 1/2 cu. yd. tank that is picked up twice a week would pay $6.00 while a business with a 1 1/2 cu. yd. tank that is picked up five time; a week would pay $15.00 per month .1 ?1 DENTISTS OFFICE OPENS MONDAY Dr. Michael Rockwell advises that his dental practice wilt be open Monday, September 22, 1975. Hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Patients will be seen by appointment only, except, of course, in case of emergencies. Charges for dental services will be according to a fee schedule based on fees customary and common to this area. The newly furnished and completely refurbished offices are located in the old bank building at 200 2nd Ave. West in Poplar, Montana. The phone number is 768-3761. There will ba a complete report on the new Medical Dental Center in next weeks Shopper. JR. VARSITY ROMPS OVER CIRCLE The Jur.ior Varsity tamed the Circle Wildcats Saturday afternoon with o 20-0 victory. The offensive giant was Frank Gour-neau who scored three Poplar touchdowns. At half time, the score stood 8-0 but Poplor soon scored and with only ten players withstood repeated Wildcat attempts to score .
