It wasn't a difficult weekend tor the Indians as they handily defeated Baker Friday nite and came home tc defeat Plentywood Saturday in a well played contest by both teams. Friday was rathei rough and they have a few bruises to show For it. Dana Kirn came ou* with 22 points in spite ot the Spartan*] defensive efforts. Tom Granbois and Emery Red Icq!*� each had 10 points and tfie test of the scoring was fairly even with most Indians getting 2 or 4 points a piece . Tom Granbois was benched in the 4th quarter with 5 fouls after an extremely weil-played game for him. Poplar was victorious 62-46. Saturday was an excellent example of aood basketball It seems that we see the best display! of basketball when Plentywood com*., to town. The Indians really came alive in the 4th quarter to odd to their 10 point lead and finished with a 21 point lead. Tom Grontoorl hod another excellent game with 19 points and Dana Kim had 18. The final score was Poplar 74, Plenty-wood 53. The Indians travel to Glendiva this Friday and host the Sidney Eagles Saturday night. After winning the last regular speech meet of the season, Culbertson. Poplar's forensics squad nearly came home with the first place District Speech Trophy . We were nosed out by two points and did earn the second place trophy . We finished with 49 points, second only to Medicine Lake's 51 . Glasgow came in third with 43. The results of a couple of events were rathei shocking and could ha.e easily made up that two point deficit . At any rate, that's how the proverbial cookie crumbles . Competitors and their events; Debate - Bob Van Dover and Cliver Maison got it all together on Saturday and whipped the Sidney team in finals to place first. Perseverance and work were the keys to this duo's 'luck'. Impromptu - Bonnie Thornton and Karen Holen both advanced to semi-finals, but were halted there, but not before adding vital sweepstakes points Cral Interpretation of Literature - Even though Jamie Ruffatto placed 3ra and Mary Lee French mode *inals we nod an*icipated doing better here . Some of the disappointing round results can be att ributed to inconsistent judging, for example, Jamie's ratings in semi-finals were 1-1-5. Jamie had s*roight ones thru all preliminary rounds. Mary Lee has done so very well in meets all year, we were all dumbfounded by Her misfortune on Saturday, the talent is there . Expository Speaking- Lisa Vcr Dover made semi-*inals with her speech on Mummies to wrap up the season (pun intended) and Suzette Johnston just did hove enough *\me to polish her speech since it was all prepared lost week. Suzette had competed in girls' extern nearly all season before Distric*. Cont, to Pace 2 m ELECTED TO BOARD Popia* High School Principal, George Jack* Copps has been elected to the Montana High School Association <MHSA) board of directors. Mr . Copps will serve as the class "A" activities division representative for o term of four years. He was selected to succeed Dan Moiinkovich of Miles City on the fi/e member board ot directors at the annual MHSA general meeting held February 2-4 in Helena, Montana. Mr. Copps has been a member of the Popla' School System since I960. He bega- his duties as high school principal in 1965.
