POSTAGE PERMIT �4 *�MtMnr�MtMiTMM�irrMMinMtiryMivrrrMMvri�MMrtrrrri^ Wild West Days Parade Winners 1st Place - Traders State Bank 2nd Place - Wally's Grocery DRUG BUSTS On June 19, 1987 the Roosevelt County Sheriff's Department in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Burecu of Indian Affairs ended a three month long investigation by executing five search warrants in Poplar. A total of twenty three law enforcement officers from Roosevelt and Valley Counties, the FBI and BIA sesrched five homes in Poplar resulting in two arrests. The arrests of Shannon O'Brien for misdemeanor possession of dangerous drugs, and George Walking Eagle for possession of dangerous drugs. In the next few weeks the Sheriff's Department will be filing numerous charges for sale of dangercus drugs as a result of this county wide investigation, we have started the ball rolling now, and with a lot of hard and relentless work, we will continue to pursue the drug problem, but the Department needs the support of each and every one of you that share the concerns that drugs are damaging our youth. "KIDS DAY" m �* ^ TEXAS TROTTI ER WARMS UP FOR BICYCLE RACE Federal Funds To County Emergency Programs The selection was made by a National Board made up of affiliates of national voluntary organizations and chaired by the Federal Emergancy Management Agency �FEMA). Action for Eastern Montana will provide the administrative staff and function as fiscal agent for Roosevelt County. They will be advised by the Roosevelt County Emergency Food and Shelter Board. The Local Board was pleased to learn of the $3202 award compared to the $1199 of last year. They are asking that any local service organizations that provide emergancy food and shelter ano are interested in receiving some of this money sena in an application letter stating services provided, people served, amount ofmoney requested with a specific breakdown as to how money would be spent including nights of lodging and number of meals fnr how many people. They would also like a' similar breakdown for last year services. The application letters should be sent to Rose Neumiller, Chairman; Box 505; wolf Point, MT-59201 by July 1, 1987, if you have questions call 653-2441. To qualify local organizations must: 1) be nonprofit, 2) have an accounting system and conduct an annual audit, 3) practice nondicrimination, 4) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergancy food and/or shelter programs, and 5) if trev are a private voluntary organzation, they should have a voluntary board. Certain shelter, food, and energy assistance are eligible costs. Accounting for funds will be much simpler this year. Expenses will be paid from vendor voucher directly by Action for Eastern Montana. Contact the Board if you have questions concerning eligible/ineligible costs. 4 KNOW THE WEATHER The Poplar area recieved some welcome rain over t^e weekend. In town we nad about .65 and west of the Chelsea area some hail was reported and 2i inches of rain, up on the Mineral Bench .85 reported and over North Brockton an inch. South of the Missouri a good rain with some spots going over 2 inches. The crops look good and the grasshoppers do continue to do their dirty work. No one brought in any Big Hoppers this week. FOURTH OF JULY WILL SOON BE HERE!! Fireworks donations are now being accepted. Donations may be left at the Shopper or Dallas Aero. Let's make the best year ever!!! The wreck was a \976 CHEV. MONTI-CARLO., TOM BROWN SR.-WOLF POINT, MT. 1st Annual Wild West Days Run Begins WILD WEST RUN Notice THE CITY OF POPLAR WILL BE FLUSHING HYDRANTS ON FRIDAY, JUNE 2Ath... Thirty seven runners and walkers competed in the 1st annual Poplar wild west Run sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, June 20th at 8 a.m. It was warm and humid when the offical timer Mike Granbois yelled, "GO", but that didn't daunt the spirit of the Contestants. Top Finisher results are as follows: 1 MILE 1st place - Dean Necklace - Poplar 2nd place - Clarence Longtree - Poplar 3rd place - Crystal Nelsen - Poplar 5 K RACE 3rd place - Monty Mason - Poplar Finishing in 1st place position in the 10 K Race (6.2 miles) was Allen Boyd, of Poplar, at 36:48. That is mighty "FLEET OF FOOT" and if he'd been running on a dirt road his legs would have been kicking up dust. Results of that race were: 10 K RACE Poplar, time of 36:48. Allen Boyd Bryan Eder - Williston, N.D., time 1st place - Barry Bighorn - Brockton 2nd place - Dewayne Boyd - Brockton 1st place � 2nd place of 37:03 3rd place - Bill Sage - Poplar, time of 40:25. 4th place - Gary Rosager - wolf Point, time of 40:32.
