Dale Mas one of sixtyfive candidates who were interviewed by Representative Ron Marlenee's Academy Review Board in Billings on December 6th. This year Representative Marlenee has an allotment of one "principal slot" each for the Air Force Academy and Naval Academy and two for West Point. A candidate's -chances for being appointed depend largely upon his/her high school grades, S.A.T. scores, activities in which he/she participated and the interview. Candidates who are not selected as prime slot appointments may be chosen for the "alternate oool " from which it is possible to ultimately receive an appointment to one of the academi es. The three major academies all have one-year prep school programs. A candidate who does not receive the appointment may have the option of attending the academy s prep school in oroer to raise his/her college entry scores enough to be accepted into the academy itself the fo'lowing year. The prep school year is an intense cn-campus experience whose expenses are completely covered by the academy. Dale should know by the end of December if he has received the appointment which he seeks. Alternates may not know until as late as May if they receive an appointment or are chosen for prep school .
