MINERALS MEETING In the first statewide session of its kind, Montana landowners with mineral interests will meet Nov. 17-18 in Havre to discuss joint concerns and examine their relationship with the petroleum industry. The gathering will bring together the Montana Land and Mineral Owners Assn., Northeast Montana Land & Mineral Owners Assn. and Hi-Plains Land and Mineral Owners Assn., which together claim more than 700 members who keep each other informed on such matters as seismic exploration, mineral leases and right-of-entry to properties. MLMOA President Tom Sheehy of Big Sandy says he expects a good turnout for the meeting, which will launch Nov. 17 at 9 a.m. at the LeHavre Inn. Scheduled to speak at a 7 p. m. banquet on Nov. 17 is Dale Zimmerman, special assistant to the deputy director for enery and minerals of the Bureau of Land Management in Washington D.C. Montana Petroleum Assn. Executive Director Don Allen of Helena will moderate a panel on determining equitable surface damage compensation. Helena attorney Donald Garrity of the Montana Board of Oil and Gas Conservation will discuss surface owners' rights and leasing procedures. The board's chairman, Dick Campbell of Billings, will explain his panel's proceedings. Douglas Haws of NOR PAC Exploration Services in Englewood, Colorado, will examine the seismic industry in perspective. And Pres. Richard Larson of the Utah Royalty Owners Assn. will describe activities of the National Assn. of Royalty Owners. PLAY PRESENTED The Missoula Children's Theatre will present "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" Friday and Saturday, Nov. 12 and 13 at a 2 p.m. matinee performance each afternoon. The cast includes Judith Babnich and Greg Robin Smith from the Missoula Children's Theatre, and children from Poplar Elementary and Middle Schools. The performances will be in the High School Auditorium. The public is invited to attend the Saturday afternoon performance. Tickets will be on sale at the door Sat. afternoon, and prices are as lollows: $1.00 for a student ticket, and $2.00 for an adult ticket. SPEECH TEAM SPEECH TEAM NEWS The speech team competed against 11 schools last weekend in the Sidney Speech and Drama Invitational Meet. Poplar placed first in the Class B division. The coach, Mr. Howell, said he was impressed with the individual accomplishments of the students and the team spirit. Competing for Poplar were Zane Rising Sun, first in memorized public address. Lisa Schmitz, second memorized public address; Valerie Hecht, 2nd in oral interpretation; Peter Ruffatto and Dan O'Brien second in debate; Lisa Storkson, fourth in girls' extemp ; Rebecca Crisp and Anne Eder finalists in girls' extemp; Ted Storksor and Darrin Crisp, finalists in boys' extemp; Jerry Richard, fifth in impromptu; Randy Teske finalist in extemp; and Camille Beauclair, fifth in oratory. The Montana Grand Ole Opry Show promises an exciting variety of music and talent for all ages. A three-point loss to Fairview and a five-point loss to Circle dropped Poplar into second place in the Final Conference standing. This assured Poplar of a first game bye going into the District l-B Tournament at Plentywood. Poplar met Fairview, the winner of the Thursday second game by a score of 60-33 over Sco-bey. THE SHOPPER WILL AGAIN BE PRINTED THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 2, 1982. CHAMBER NEWS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE M1MUTES_ President Tom Clark called the weekly meeting of the Poplar Chamber to order. No previous minutes were available due to the absence of the Secretary. Mr. Clark announced the selection of a nominating committee for the annual election of officers which will be held in early December. Members of the committee are: Jim Rowe, Marilyn Ridenhower, Florn Martin, Paul Longden and Renell Walters. George Budak introduced his house guests, Judy Budnich and Greg Robin Smith, two professional actors, who are in Poplar assisting with the production of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" which will be presented at the Poplar High School Auditorium, Saturday, at 2:00 p.m. Jim Rowe, newly elected president of the Community Hospital Board, asked for support from the Chamber in the recruiting of doctors to the community. Miles Diede from the Boy Scout Council in Great Falls thanked the Chamber for their support last year. Howard Anderson moved the meeting adjourn. Motion carried. Marilyn Ridenhower GIRLS BASKETBALL The Indians forced turnovers with their full court pressure and with quick passing and strong defense they held a 33 to 18 half time lead. By the end of the third quarter it was a 19 point lead, and finished up the game with a 62-*7 victory which placed them in the Championship game against Circle. Denise Smith with 21 and Gina Ryan, 16 along with Val Moran's 10 led Poplar in the win. In the Championship game Poplar fell behind in the first half on outside shooting of Rhonda Spidel and forced the Indians to play catch-up ball. Fouls turned out to be the difference with Poplar shooting 0-10 from the line and Circle ' hitting 15-20. The final score was Circle *9 , Poplar 38. This places Poplar in the first game Thursday evening at 7:30. The Indians will face Forsyth the 3rd place team in Dist. 2-B . Support your Indian Team at Divisional*.
