Genre (Short List)
The Lower Marias Irrigation Unit, to be constructed by the Bureau of Reclamation, includes some of the Indian lands known as the Turtle Mountain Public Domain Allotments and a portion of the Rocky Boy's Reservations. These lands are now under the jurisdiction of the Fort Belknap Consolidated Agency, Harlem, Montana. This report identifies and describes the present use of the Indian-owned lands within the proposed irrigation unit. It also contains tabulations of the Indian lands which are proposed as irrigable and of the Indian land required by the unit for canal rights-of-way. Although exact metes and bounds descriptions of the canal takings and proposed irrigable areas have not yet been surveyed in final detail by the Bureau of Reclamation, sufficient information has been made available for the preliminary estimates contained in this report.
